Fixing What He Didn’t Break

Psalm 147:3 – “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

In the maintenance department of a busy manufacturing plant, technicians often faced a frustrating challenge: removing stripped screws left behind by their colleagues. What should have been a simple task became complicated because someone else had damaged the fasteners. One seasoned technician remarked, “The hardest part of my job isn’t fixing what’s broken—it’s fixing what someone else broke incorrectly.”

How often this mirrors our spiritual journey! We struggle with brokenness—some self-inflicted, some caused by others—that complicates our lives and relationships. The stripped screws of past mistakes, hurtful words from others, or wounds from childhood create damage that seems impossible to repair.

Yet God specializes in fixing what He didn’t break. Unlike the frustrated technician, He doesn’t sigh with exasperation when approaching our complicated damage. “I have loved you with an everlasting love,” He assures us in Jeremiah 31:3, “I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.”

Our heavenly Father isn’t the author of our brokenness, but He is the ultimate Restorer. Where others see damaged goods beyond repair, God sees restoration opportunities. Where we see stripped screws that won’t budge, He sees a chance to demonstrate His healing power.

The beauty of God’s restoration work isn’t just that He fixes us—it’s that He often makes the repaired areas stronger than before. Like the Japanese art of Kintsugi, where broken pottery is mended with gold, God’s healing work highlights rather than hides our restored places.

Today, bring your broken pieces—whether self-inflicted or caused by others—to the Master Technician who delights in restoration work.

Today’s Prayer: Father, thank You for being the God who restores what You didn’t break. Help me trust Your restoration process, even when healing feels slow or painful. Amen.

Reflection Question: What “stripped screws” in your life have you been trying to fix on your own?
