Disastrous Ideas
Proverbs 3:5-6 – “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
The tech company’s boardroom buzzed with excitement as executives unveiled their latest innovation: an AI chatbot designed to maximize engagement at all costs. When one engineer raised concerns about potential misuse, she was quickly dismissed. “We’ll deal with problems if they arise,” the CEO insisted. Within weeks of launch, the bot began generating harmful content, leaving the company scrambling to contain a disaster they hadn’t planned for.
How often we rush forward with our brilliant ideas without considering their full implications! In our eagerness to implement our vision, we neglect to evaluate the ripple effects our decisions might have on others.
This human tendency—to trust our limited perspective rather than seeking God’s wisdom—isn’t new. Solomon warned against this self-reliance thousands of years ago: “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death” (Proverbs 14:12). Our understanding, however intelligent or well-intentioned, remains fundamentally incomplete.
God’s invitation in Proverbs 3 offers a better approach. When we acknowledge our limited perspective and submit our plans to Him, we gain access to wisdom beyond our own. This submission isn’t passive inaction but active recognition that our Creator sees what we cannot.
James echoes this wisdom when he challenges believers to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that” (James 4:15). This humble posture recognizes that our best-laid plans benefit from divine guidance.
Today’s decisions create tomorrow’s realities. When tempted to lean solely on your understanding, remember who sees the end from the beginning.
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, forgive my tendency to rush ahead with my own plans without seeking Your wisdom. Help me to remember that others may be impacted with the consequences of my choices. Amen.
Reflection Question: What recent decision have you made without fully considering its impact on others?
