Can You Hear The Horn?
Isaiah 30:21 – “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.'”
The car began pulling away from the curb without warning, drifting directly into the path of oncoming traffic. A quick blast of the horn got the driver’s attention just in time. They jerked the wheel back, avoided the collision, and offered an apologetic wave. The horn wasn’t meant to embarrass or punish—it was a warning that prevented disaster.
Sometimes God uses similar methods to get our attention. Just as that driver was focused on their immediate goal without checking for oncoming traffic, we can become so intent on our plans that we miss potential dangers ahead. We pull into situations without looking, make decisions without prayer, or pursue relationships without wisdom.
God’s “horn” might sound through a friend’s concerned voice, an unexpected obstacle that forces us to pause, or a nagging sense of unease about a direction we’re heading. Sometimes it’s a sermon that seems specifically aimed at our situation or a Bible verse that won’t leave our thoughts.
The key is recognizing these warnings as loving protection rather than unwelcome interference. Just as that horn blast prevented a collision, God’s interventions often spare us from consequences we can’t yet see.
Unfortunately, not everyone responds to the horn. Some drivers ignore the warning and proceed anyway, sometimes with tragic results. Similarly, we can choose to dismiss God’s guidance, convinced that we know better or that our urgency justifies the risk.
God will warn us when we’re headed for trouble—He will. Will we hear His horn and respond before it’s too late?
Today’s Prayer: Father, help me recognize Your warnings when I’m heading in a dangerous direction. Thank You for caring enough to sound the alarm when I need it. Amen.
Reflection Question: What “horn” is God sounding in your life right now that you’ve been ignoring?
