A New Beginning
Isaiah 43:19 – “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
The first day of anything new carries a particular kind of energy that is difficult to describe to someone who has not recently experienced it. You are walking into a building where most of the faces are unfamiliar, where the rhythms and expectations and unwritten rules have not yet revealed themselves to you. You know your own name and your job title and not much else. Everything that will eventually become routine is still foreign, and there is a version of yourself standing in that lobby or that parking lot that is simultaneously eager and quietly aware of how much you do not yet know.
That awareness is not a bad thing, even when it feels uncomfortable. It is the honest posture of someone standing at a genuine beginning. The confidence that comes later, the ease of familiarity, the relationships that develop over time, none of that is available on day one. What is available on day one is openness, and openness is something God consistently works with. The people who arrived at new assignments in Scripture rarely arrived knowing what was ahead of them. Ruth walked into Boaz’s field as a stranger. Esther entered a palace with no guarantee of how her story would unfold. What they carried was availability, and God met them in it.
New beginnings have a way of reminding us that we are not actually the ones who arrange our lives. We plan, we prepare, we pursue opportunity, but the open door itself is never really our doing. Proverbs 16:9 says that a person plans their course but the Lord establishes their steps. That first day, with all of its unfamiliarity and anticipation, is evidence that God has been working on your behalf in rooms you never entered and conversations you were never part of.
You did not arrive there by accident. Walk in accordingly.
Today’s Prayer: Lord, as I step into what is unfamiliar, remind me that You are already present in every space. Give me the grace to begin well. Amen.
Reflection Question: What would it look like to approach a new situation with the confidence that God has already gone before you?
