The Knowledge Of God
Psalm 147:5 – “Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.”
The Library of Congress holds more than one hundred and seventy million items, books and manuscripts and maps and recordings stretching across shelves that would run for hundreds of miles if laid end to end. No single person could read even a fraction of it in one lifetime. A dedicated reader finishing a book every single day would still die having read less than a percentage point of what sits inside that building, and that building does not even hold everything humanity has ever written. Most of it has been lost, and even what remains represents only a sliver of what could theoretically be known about the world.
Set any one person’s actual knowledge against that library and the comparison becomes almost embarrassing. A lifetime of reading, of education, of hard won experience, reduced to a number so small it barely registers as a fraction at all.
Now consider that God does not merely know what fills that library. He knows what filled it before it was ever built, what will fill it after it crumbles, and everything true in the universe that no human hand will ever manage to write down at all. The psalmist wrote that the Lord’s understanding has no limit, and that phrase was not poetic exaggeration. It was the plainest possible description of a mind that does not learn, does not forget, and does not require research, because everything that can be known already exists within it completely.
The Library of Congress represents centuries of human effort to capture knowledge. God did not need centuries. He never needed to capture anything He did not already hold.
Today’s Prayer: Lord, I confess how small my understanding truly is next to Yours. Thank You that I don’t have to know everything, because You already do, and You are trustworthy with what I cannot see. Amen.
Reflection Question: How does trusting God’s limitless understanding change how you handle anxious situations?
