Keep It Turning

Hebrews 3:13 – “But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘Today,’ so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.”

The cement mixer truck sat parked outside the job site, its drum rotating the entire time. Nobody was pouring anything yet. No concrete was being poured into forms, no slab was being laid. The truck simply idled at the curb while the drum kept turning, slow and steady, never stopping.

At first it seemed wasteful, all that motion with no apparent purpose. But the reason became obvious with a little thought. Inside that drum sat wet cement, and wet cement left alone does not stay wet for long. Left still, it begins to set. Given enough time without movement, it hardens into something unusable, something that has to be broken apart and hauled away rather than poured into anything good.

The driver knew this. So the drum never stopped, whether the truck was driving down the highway or sitting still at a red light. Motion was not optional. Motion was what kept the mixture soft enough to still be useful.

A Christian life works much the same way. Faith that sits still for too long begins to harden. Prayer left unspoken too long grows stiff. Scripture unread too long grows distant. A heart that stops moving toward God does not stay neutral, it starts to set.

Paul told the Philippians to keep working out their salvation, and Peter urged believers to keep growing in grace. Neither one described a finished project. Both described ongoing motion.

Faith was never meant to sit idle. It was meant to keep turning.

Today’s Prayer: Lord, keep me moving toward You. Don’t let my heart grow still and hard while I wait for the right moment to seek You. Amen.

Reflection Question: What part of your walk with God has been sitting idle lately?
