Packing Material

2 Thessalonians 3:3 – “But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.”

The box on the front porch was much larger than the small item inside it. Once the tape was cut, the packing material seemed endless. Crumpled brown paper filled every corner, a sheet of bubble wrap circled the contents twice, and foam blocks held everything firmly in place. At the very center sat a ceramic coffee mug, without a single chip or crack. The sender had never met the person receiving it, yet he had clearly thought about every bump and drop that box might face along the way and had planned for each one.

God surrounds His children with protection in much the same way, and most of it goes unnoticed. A delay that kept someone off a dangerous road, a closed door that steered a life away from harm, and a friend who spoke a warning at the right time all serve as packing material placed by a careful hand. Believers rarely see the bumps that never reached them.

Even Satan recognized this protection. When he accused Job before the Lord, he complained that God had put a hedge around Job, his household, and everything he owned. Job had no idea how carefully he was being guarded. Paul gave the church at Thessalonica the same assurance, reminding them that the Lord is faithful and will strengthen and protect them from the evil one.

Some of that packing material can feel restrictive. A boundary or a hard no from God may seem like an inconvenience in the moment. Yet the One who placed it knows every rough road ahead, and He intends for His people to arrive at their destination whole.

Today’s Prayer: Lord, thank You for the protection You have placed around me, even the parts I never noticed. Amen.

Reflection Question: What boundary in your life might actually be God’s protection rather than an inconvenience?
