Around The Bend
Jeremiah 29:11 – “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you hope and a future.'”
The highway stretched ahead, winding downhill before rising again toward a distant curve. From the driver’s seat, the path was clear for the next mile or so—straight pavement leading to an uphill climb, then a sharp bend to the right around a wooded hillside. But what lay beyond that curve remained completely hidden. The road could continue straight, curve again, or lead to any number of destinations. The hill blocked all view of what came next.
This driving experience captures something fundamental about life’s journey. We can often see our immediate path with reasonable clarity. Tomorrow’s schedule, next week’s commitments, even next month’s plans may be visible on our personal horizon. But the longer view—the significant turns, the major transitions, the unexpected opportunities—remains obscured by the hills and curves of time.
This limited perspective can create anxiety. We want to see around the bend, to know what challenges or blessings await us. We strain to peer into the future, sometimes allowing worry about the unknown to overshadow trust in the One who does see clearly.
God’s view is different. He sees not just around the next bend, but around every curve in our journey. Isaiah reminds us that God’s ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). What appears uncertain to us is completely clear to Him.
Rather than demanding to see what’s around the bend, we can trust the One who sees the entire route and has already prepared the way.
Today’s Prayer: Father, when I can’t see what’s coming next in my life, help me trust that You can see clearly around every bend. Amen.
Reflection Question: What “bend in the road” are you most anxious about right now?
