God Is Still On The Throne
Psalm 9:7 – “The LORD sits enthroned forever; he has established his throne for judgment.”
The phrase echoed through the sanctuary with the weight of hard-won wisdom. “God is still on the throne,” the elderly woman declared, her voice carrying decades of experience through trials that would have broken many people. She had buried children, lost jobs, watched dreams crumble, and faced diagnoses that seemed like death sentences. Yet something unshakeable remained in her voice.
This declaration, familiar to many who grew up in traditional churches, speaks to a truth that transcends circumstances. When everything visible suggests that chaos reigns—when personal disasters pile up, when the news fills with tragedy, when evil seems to prosper while good people suffer—the throne of heaven remains occupied by the same sovereign God.
The psalmist understood this eternal perspective: “The LORD sits enthroned forever.” Not temporarily, not conditionally, not depending on how things appear from our limited viewpoint. His rule doesn’t fluctuate with stock markets, election results, or personal crises.
This doesn’t mean God is distant or uncaring about our struggles. Rather, it means that whatever storms rage in our immediate circumstances, the ultimate authority in the universe remains steady, wise, and good. Kings rise and fall, governments change, economies collapse and recover, but the throne that matters most never wavers.
When older saints speak these words, they’re not offering empty religious platitudes. They’re testifying to a truth they’ve proven through seasons when everything else seemed uncertain. They’ve discovered that acknowledging God’s continued sovereignty provides an anchor when life’s storms threaten to overwhelm.
God is in control—will we trust His throne when we can’t see His hand?
Today’s Prayer: Lord, when my circumstances make it hard to see Your control, remind me that Your throne remains unshaken. Amen.
Reflection Question: What current situation in your life would benefit from remembering that “God is still on the throne?
