Jesus Is
Philippians 4:19 – “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”
The song’s simple chorus echoed through the sanctuary, each line declaring another aspect of who Jesus is. Not who He was, or who He might become, but who He is—present tense, available now, sufficient for every need we face.
This declaration touches something deep within the human heart. We live with countless needs that shift and change throughout our lives. In childhood, we need security and guidance. As young adults, we need direction and purpose. In middle age, we often need strength and wisdom. In later years, we may need comfort and hope.
The world offers partial solutions to these needs. Education promises knowledge. Relationships offer companionship. Success provides satisfaction. Wealth brings security. Yet each of these, while valuable, eventually reveals its limitations. Knowledge can’t heal a broken heart. Companionship can’t guarantee purpose. Success doesn’t prevent suffering. Wealth can’t purchase peace.
Jesus presents Himself differently. He doesn’t claim to be one solution among many, but the complete answer to humanity’s deepest longings. When He told the Samaritan woman, “I am he” (John 4:26), or declared to His disciples, “I am the way and the truth and the life” (John 14:6), He was making comprehensive claims about His sufficiency.
Paul discovered this reality personally. Despite facing imprisonment, persecution, and hardship, he could confidently write that God would meet all needs according to His riches in Christ Jesus. Not some needs, not most needs, but all needs.
The beauty of this truth is its simplicity: whatever we lack, Jesus is. Whatever we need, He provides.
Today’s Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me truly believe that You are everything I need. When I’m tempted to look elsewhere for fulfillment, remind me that You are sufficient. Amen.
