Line Of Sight
1 Peter 5:8 – “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”
t never fails. The windshield wiper clears the entire expanse of glass in one clean sweep, and somehow the streak it leaves behind lands in the exact same spot every time — right in the line of sight. Not off to the side where it would be easy to ignore. Not in the upper corner where it barely registers. Directly in the center of where your eyes naturally go when you’re trying to see the road clearly. It is almost impressively inconvenient.
After a while you start to wonder if it’s personal.
It isn’t, of course. But there’s something in that pattern worth thinking about. Because there are things in life that have a way of showing up consistently in the line of sight — distractions, temptations, and disruptions that don’t appear randomly but seem specifically positioned to interfere with clarity and focus at the moments that matter most.
That positioning is rarely accidental. Ephesians 6:11 warns about the schemes of the enemy — a word that implies deliberate strategy, not random interference. The disruption that arrives right when you’ve committed to a new spiritual discipline. The distraction that surfaces precisely when focus is most critical. The conflict that ignites at the moment when peace was finally within reach. These things have a pattern because they come from a source that understands exactly where your line of sight is.
Recognizing the pattern is the first step toward not being controlled by it. A streak on the glass only wins if you forget you can still see through it.
Today’s Prayer:
Lord, give me the discernment to see through the interference and the focus to keep my eyes on what matters most. Amen.
Reflection Question:
Is there a recurring disruption or distraction in your life that keeps appearing in your line of sight?
