Screen Protector

Proverbs 30:5 – “Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.”

The phone had been dropped more times than anyone could count, off countertops, out of pockets, once even down a flight of concrete stairs. And yet the screen underneath remained flawless, no cracks, no spider webs branching out from a corner impact, nothing but a smooth surface still responding to every tap and swipe. The credit for that belonged almost entirely to a thin sheet of tempered glass applied months earlier, a layer so unremarkable most people forget it is even there until the day it absorbs an impact that would have destroyed the screen underneath.

That is the whole purpose of a screen protector. It takes the hit so something more valuable does not have to. It sits directly between the device and whatever the world throws at it, scratches from keys in a pocket, the corner of a table, gravity itself, and it absorbs the damage silently. When it finally does crack, nobody mourns it. That is what it was there for. The phone survives because something stood between it and the impact.

Scripture functions the same way in a believer’s life. The world is full of things capable of cracking a person, discouragement, temptation, lies dressed up as wisdom, and God’s word stands as the barrier absorbing the impact before it reaches what matters most. Proverbs calls God flawless and a shield to those who take refuge in Him, and a shield only works for someone actually standing behind it. Psalm 91:4 speaks of His faithfulness as a shield and rampart, something a person has to stay under to benefit from.

A phone without a screen protector is one drop away from disaster. A life without God’s word in it is closer to that same edge than most people realize.

Today’s Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your word standing between me and the things that would damage me. Help me stay close to you. Amen.

Reflection Question: What has been hitting your life lately that God’s word could have absorbed if you had been standing closer to it?
