The Radiator

Ecclesiastes 3:1 – “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”

Walk through most homes in July and you will pass right by the radiator without a second thought. It sits against the wall, quiet and still, completely ignored while window units hum and ceiling fans spin overhead. Nobody is talking about the radiator in July. Nobody needs it. The heat of summer has made it irrelevant to the conversation.

But here is what is true about that radiator: it is not broken. It is not forgotten by the house. It is not sitting there in some kind of disgrace because the season does not currently call for it. It is full, ready, and completely capable of doing exactly what it was built to do. When October arrives and the temperature drops, that same radiator will be turned on without hesitation, and it will deliver. The house depends on it.

There is something quietly powerful about that kind of readiness.

Many of us find ourselves in seasons where our gifts are not front and center. The platform is smaller, the audience is quieter, or the assignment we feel called to has not fully opened yet. It is easy in those moments to feel sidelined or overlooked. But being out of season is not the same as being out of purpose.

Joseph spent time in a pit and a prison before he ever stood in a palace. But when Pharaoh needed someone, Joseph was ready. He had not wasted his quiet season. Proverbs 13:12 says that hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. The fulfillment comes. The season turns.

Stay full. Stay ready. Your season is coming, and when it does, you will not have to scramble to become what God already made you to be.

Today’s Prayer: Lord, when I feel overlooked or underused, remind me that You have not forgotten me. Keep me prepared, faithful, and ready so that when my season arrives, I will not be found empty. Amen.

Reflection Question: What does “staying ready” look like practically in your current season?
