Wrong Address
Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you.”
The envelope showed up in the mailbox on a Tuesday, addressed to a name and a house number that did not match. Wrong street entirely, one digit off from a house three blocks over. It happens more often than people realize, mail sorted at high speed by machines that occasionally misread a smudged number or a handwritten zip code. Most neighbors do not just shrug and keep a piece of mail that clearly belongs to someone else. They walk it over, or write “not at this address” and drop it back in the box, because everyone understands a simple truth. That letter was never meant for them, and holding onto it would not make it theirs.
The relief comes from the opposite direction too. When the mail matches the name on the door, there is no second guessing involved. That piece of mail was addressed correctly, sent with the sender’s full intention, meant to arrive at this exact house and no other.
God’s dealings with His people work the same way, with far more precision than any postal system could manage. The prophet Jeremiah recorded God’s promise to His people that He knew the plans He had for them, plans meant for their good and not for harm. Those plans were never sent to the wrong address and mistakenly handed to someone nearby. What God has prepared for a person carries that person’s name on it specifically, chosen and directed by a Sender who never makes mistakes with delivery.
Nobody worries whether the mail with their name on it might have been meant for the neighbor instead. What God has for His children was never in danger of ending up somewhere else.
Today’s Prayer: Lord, thank You that what You have planned for me is mine, chosen specifically by You. Help me trust Your timing and Your delivery. Amen.
Reflection Question: Is there something you’ve been anxious about receiving, wondering if it will pass you by?
